What is mammography screening and when is an examination useful?
The mammography screening program has been introduced in Germany since 2005 for women between 50 and 75 years of age. Here, all women in this age group are invited to participate in the program to detect breast cancer at a stage before it is palpable or causes other symptoms. Since 2006, we have been offering this service as one of around 90 screening units in Germany.
Are all benefits covered by health insurance?
Most services provided by our practice are covered by health insurance companies, whether statutory or private. However, we can only offer some services, such as tomosynthesis, automatic breast ultrasound (ABUS) or contrast agent mammography and in some cases MR mammography (magnetic resonance imaging), as an IGEL service to legally insured persons.

How quickly is a result available?
In mammography screening, your 2D mammography images are performed by a specially trained specialist (MTRA or MFA) and you are then sent home. Your images are then evaluated independently by 2 radiologists. If the findings are unobtrusive, you will usually receive a notification within one week. If there is an abnormality, or if your images are not sufficient for a final diagnosis, you will be invited back to another appointment. This is where the further examination of the chest takes place.
